Many of today’s young people have not taken
the time to consider what we would like to do
with our lives after we leave school. For many now
is the time because we could receive some of the
education and training required for many careers while
we are in high school.
I have created this blog as part of my career search
project for my technology education class
and hope that the teachers that are in the profession
already can assist me in finding the information I need
not only to complete my career search project but to
give me a head start and direction to the paths I need to
take in order to become a teacher in the future.
My hope is that this blog will create an on going dialog
and that others interested in becoming teachers
may benefit as well.
If you are a teacher, a student interested
in becoming a teacher, or have information or comments
that are helpful please share with me
and thank you in advance for your contributions.

Here is some questions that I have:
ReplyDelete1 What is the outlook on the teaching profession?
2 What type of schooling is needed to teach in New York State?
3 What are the benefits?
4 What is the pay scale?
5 What are some advantages and disadvantages of the job?
6 Do you have any thoughts about becoming a teacher?
Here are my answers for your questions.
ReplyDelete1. The teaching profession is one that will always be around. It is a wonderful profession to go into! The rewards you will get from helping a child learn is priceless.
2. You will need a Masters Degree to get your permanent certification to teach.
3. Benefits of teaching are many. There is the benefit to seeing a child catch on to a topic for the first time. Watching a little child's eyes light up as he/she read their first words. There are also benefits of knowing you helped change a life.
Of course there is also the job benefits too. Heath insurance, life insurence, retirement, etc.
4. Pay scales vary by school district, as well as education level. The more schooling you have the more money you can make.
5. Advantages are also some of the benefits I listed above. Disadvantages could be considered the fact that your job really doesn't end when the bell rings. Teachers do a great deal of work outside of the classroom as well. Most teachers spend many outside hours grading papers, lesson planning, and preparing for the following day.
6. My thoughts on becoming a teacher....DO IT! The benefits really outweigh the disadvantages.
Thanks You TheBug415 do I need a masters degree to start teaching?
ReplyDeleteDoes anyone know of any good websites that may help with my career search? Either dealing with searching for a career and/or educational websites.
What should I do now to prepare for a teaching career? I am a freshman in high school.
You don't need a masters degree to start teaching but have just a few years to get one. You would be wise to have more than one teaching certificate to be qualified for more grades or special needs. I know of one GREAT teacher who lost his job to "downsizing" and it would have been wonderful to keep him in our school district.
ReplyDeleteI would second everything the TheBug said above, except #6.
ReplyDeleteFor #6, don't be afraid to try things, and work in places outside your comfort zone.
